Colorful Cushion Covers

 Colorful Cushion Covers, 50 x 50 cm (19 1/2" x 19 1/2")

 

Material for 1 cushion cover:

Canvas for needlepoint, 39 or 40 stitches for 10 cm (4"): 60 x 60 cm (23 1/2" x 23 1/2")

Tapestry wool, many colors, could be leftovers

Tapestry needle

Lining: thicker cotton or cotton mixture fabric, app 60 x 60 cm (23 1/2" x 23 1/2")

1 zipper (I always use invisible zippers), app 50 cm (19")

Small interfacing band, 120 cm (47")

Twist cord, app, 220 cm (87")

Polyester thread

Instruction:

I saw similar cushions but made my own charts on the computer. Then I worked with the tapestry needle and the colorful wool.

After having been finished with the embroidery I prepared the lining for the back side of the cushion cover. I cut the lining about 10cm (4") away from the lower edge.

 

I ironed an interfacing band on both sides, to stabilize the zipper.

 

I sewed on an invisible zipper with the sewing machine.

 

(Be careful when you have a fabric with stripes!).

 

 

I made an additional seam on each zipper band --> foto.

Then I pinned the lining to the wrong side of the embroidered canvas. The zipper should be opened a little bit before sewing, otherwise it is difficult to turn the cushion cover.

I turned the cushion cover and sewed on the twisted cord by hand. If you have a twisted cord on a band you have to insert it between lining and embroidery before you join the layers.
