Shades of yellow - Home accessories - part 5 - Placemats for your coffeetable in crazy patchwork





For the crazy placemats (finished size 30 x 40 cm) you need 
  • Lots of ribbons, lace and different fabric cut into small ribbons
  • Interfacing
  • Lining material.



 
I used for the backside of the placemats linen, fixed with interfacing material. (you can also use cotton or mixed fabrics).
Before you start, iron all your ribbons, lace,... carefully and begin to pin these material on the interfacing side of the linen as you can see on the photo.


Then start sewing with a zigzag stitch.


After having sewn all the ribbons on the placemats, cut pieces of cotton fabric for a nice seam around and pin one on a side of the placemat.


The sew it and fold it to the back side, pin it. Now start with the next side of the placemat --> pin another cotton ribbon and sew it, pin it,... until you have done all 4 sides of the placemat.


Now fix the edges by sewing.


 Iron the placemats well.


As you can see I used a lot of leftovers. You can also sew them in a criss-cross way. Have fun.
